How do Gymnathlon
sessions work?

Whether your child is new to sport or already active, our goal is for every child to leave each session feeling positive, confident, and excited about movement. 🥰 For many children, Gymnathlon may be their first organized sports experience. We understand that this can feel like a big step — for both children and parents. That’s why our coaches create a welcoming, supportive, and playful environment where children feel comfortable from the very first session.

Each session is thoughtfully structured to match the age and ability of the group. Coaches focus on encouragement, enjoyment, and steady progress, helping every child feel capable, motivated, and eager to return. 🤩

Before the session

At the beginning of each session, children gather in a circle to greet one another and meet the coaches. This creates a friendly, relaxed atmosphere and helps children feel comfortable right from the start. Children are also introduced to Gymnathlon’s mascot, Max the Monkey 🐵, who supports and motivates them throughout the program. Max is a playful companion who loves sport and encourages children in a positive way. Each week, Max visits one child’s home and collects sporting memories in his journal 📗. At the start of the next session, these experiences are shared with the group, helping children reflect, connect, and feel part of the group.

During the session

After the welcome circle and sharing experiences from the past week, it’s time to get moving. The group begins with our team cheer, “Go sports!” 🗣️, bringing everyone together and setting a positive tone. A warm-up game leads children smoothly into the main activities. From there, the session unfolds in a playful and varied way, with engaging, age-appropriate exercises designed to keep energy high and enjoyment at the heart of every activity.

End of the session

At the end of each session, children gather in a circle to slow down, catch their breath, and reflect on what they’ve accomplished. This quiet moment helps them feel calm, settled, and proud of their progress. Each child then takes their motivational sticker chart 🗺️ and adds a sticker 👍 to mark their achievement — a small but meaningful way to support motivation and confidence. This is part of our consistent closing routine. We finish with goodbyes, high-fives, and a look ahead to the next session, so children leave feeling positive and excited to return. 👋
